Showcasing the magic of the National Sports Collectors Convention
How MVT brought structure, consistency and creative direction to the National's on-site content operation — turning five days of high-energy coverage into a strategic, repeatable model.
The hobby's marquee moment, without a unified strategy
The National Sports Collectors Convention is the marquee moment of the sports card collecting hobby. For five days, over 100,000 people come together to buy, sell, trade, and connect over their shared passion. For the content team, capturing the scale, energy, and defining moments of the show is the biggest opportunity of the year. It also presents a complex operational challenge.
Prior to MVT's involvement, social coverage relied heavily on reactive shot lists, with limited overarching strategy, structure or coordination across the team. The result was an operation in which content creation, graphic design and publishing efforts often overlapped, lacked consistency and competed for attention across social feeds. The high-level metrics were good, but the content lacked clear brand identity.
MVT's initial operation audit identified opportunities to introduce a clear strategy that established efficient workflows to bring direction to every aspect of social coverage. The goal was to develop a system that made meaningful, incremental improvements that would help the team work smarter, showcase the convention more effectively and build a repeatable model for future events.
A strategic and operational lead for the National's content
MVT led the development and execution of a comprehensive social media strategy designed to bring structure, consistency and creative direction to the National's on-site operation. Building on the initial audit, insights were translated into tangible recommendations that improved how the team planned, captured, produced and published content throughout the convention.
MVT built clear and defined roles for each team member to ensure there was minimal overlap, deployed resources against a defined coverage plan, developed creative concepts in order to encapsulate the full scope of the convention, and managed publishing across platforms. The introduction of committed brand guidelines and quality-control processes assured that every post contributed to a cohesive, recognizable presentation of the National.
By serving as the central strategic and operational lead, MVT helped bring the entire content operation together — reducing duplicated efforts, creating more efficient workflows and allowing the team to focus on capturing and sharing the moments that mattered most.
Posting less, investing more
One of the most significant findings from MVT's initial audit was that the National's social strategy relied on a spray-and-pray approach to publishing. With approximately 30 Instagram posts per day under the previous operation, the volume of content suppressed any one post's ability to organically grow. The content streams were overfed, and the growth became lethargic.
MVT recommended a deliberate publishing cadence that reduced Instagram output to approximately 18–20 posts per day. Rather than prioritizing volume, the focus shifted to giving each post more room to reach audiences, gain engagement and benefit from platform distribution.
This shift was supported by a standardized creative approach that included a dedicated NSCC style guide, consistent graphic treatments, cohesive captions and defined editing standards. MVT oversaw the publishing process and quality control across the operation. Serving as the final set of eyes to check all content maintained a consistent brand identity that met the demands of a fast-moving, five-day event.
Practicing discipline in publishing allowed standout moments to break through, and the deeper repository of compelling content was leveraged into a feed active 24 hours a day. A strengthened visual identity further demonstrated that a more strategic approach to content volume could deliver stronger performance.
Utilizing hobby influencers to show the heartbeat of the hobby
The National's content correspondents offer a valuable connection to the collecting community. Each brings a distinct perspective, a robust network and an understanding of the people, products and stories that make the hobby unique. They're often the ticket into the heartbeat of the show floor, yet in years past this access point was not given a central operational plan to follow.
MVT worked directly with four hobby influencers to create a reformed National Correspondents Program that emphasized content diversity and finding compelling human stories in order to better capture the essence of why people look forward to the National annually.
Tailored content plans complemented hero concepts that leveraged their individual expertise, personalities and networks. Intentionality established clearer coverage priorities and coordinated efforts with the core video team that minimized overlap and ensured that content worked together to tell a more complete story of the convention.
Importantly, this structure didn't come at the expense of authenticity. Correspondents retained the flexibility to identify emerging stories, capture spontaneous moments and apply their own knowledge of the hobby. MVT provided the framework and creative direction; the correspondents brought the perspective and personality that made the content resonate.
The result was a more connected, recognizable and complementary body of coverage that showcased the National through the eyes of people who understand its community. The approach also created a better experience for the correspondents themselves, giving them clearer expectations and the freedom to focus on what they do best.
A repeatable foundation for future conventions
MVT's work at the 2026 National Sports Collectors Convention went beyond improving social media performance during five days of intense activity. The establishment of a strategic and operational foundation translated to an efficient, consistent and creative approach to the National's content operation.
Clearer processes, defined responsibilities, a more disciplined publishing strategy and stronger creative oversight controlled the chaos without losing the spontaneity that makes the convention special. Strengthened collaboration between content teams improved the convention's ability to capture the biggest moments of the show. This all ultimately led to the National's brand becoming clearly recognizable across social platforms, and further transforming social channels as a valuable resource for the larger company.
The impact extended beyond the event itself. By identifying opportunities for improvement, implementing practical solutions and establishing more repeatable ways of working, MVT positioned the National to carry that momentum into the offseason and future conventions.
